Project Origins
Alsatext grew out of an initial project aimed at automatically generating text in Alsatian. This project turned out to be too ambitious and never fully succeeded, but several sub‑projects emerged:
- a collection of Alsatian words, which produced dictionaries and conjugation lists
- a survey of Alsatian syntax and grammar rules
Other sub‑projects were envisioned:
- a word‑search application
- automatic translation from French to Alsatian (very complex — we are definitely not there yet!)
- automatic construction of numbers, dates, and times
- an interactive “Dialog Cards” game
Project Openness
The project is open at the data level: everything is shared and reusable.
It is also open at the technical level: the system is based on successive XSLT transformations applied to an initial XML source. The entire process is documented transparently and can be reused or reproduced.
Technical pages describing the transformation process:

The initial XML dictionary format can also be exported into other formats.
For AI and Research
Alsatext data is structured and open. It can therefore be used for linguistic analysis, the creation of educational tools, or even the training of AI models.
